Fun with Kinetic Sand!
When the weather outside turns stormy and rainy, our little ones head inside to continue exploring. 😊 Sensory play and the sandpit are two of their favourites, so what better than to bring both together! Kinetic sand is a great tool for keeping little hands engaged and it helps to provoke creativity.
Today our tray of kinetic sand was transformed into a dinosaur excavation, with mini dinosaurs buried - just waiting to be found. Working in pairs, our little ones searched with their fingers to find all the dinosaurs. The dinosaurs were all different colours and had markings on them to represent the different species. Our tamariki then arranged them in many different ways including colour and by species; having conversations as they went. Since the kinetic sand is easy to mould our little ones enjoyed pressing it between their hands and seeing formations start to appear. Using a tea strainer nearby, they created circular shapes and arranged them in front of each dinosaur to represent their food. What great thinking!
Kinetic sand is a great tactile resource that our little ones love to use. Keep an eye out to see what they do next!
