Wheels Day at Buckle My Shoe!
Recently at Buckle My Shoe we had Wheels Day - a day we had all been waiting for and all our tamariki were super excited! 🚲
At our morning mat-time, we had a kōrero on what vehicle we brought with us to Buckle My Shoe, what colour it was and how many wheels it had. We also talked about all the different varieties of transportation there are, such as motorbikes, cars and aeroplanes. After morning kai, one of our lovely kaiako went out to the front and began to create a track on the concrete. Our tamariki all stood at the gate watching with anticipation. 😍
After painting the track, we allowed some time for it to dry and during this time we printed some signs to hang out the front. Some of our pre-schoolers researched and picked out the signs to print based on their current knowledge of road signs in the community - well done! 👏👏 These included a stop sign, a crossing sign, arrows to show directions and some parking signs as well.
Coming together one last time, we had a kōrero about the important rules of being out the front and on our bikes to make sure we were all safe. We also checked out the signs and discussed the meanings of them all. 👍
Our younger tamariki went first and with so much excitement they were zooming all over the tracks.
Now it was our pre-schoolers’ turn. And wow, what skills did they have! It was awesome to see them reading the symbols of the road and riding together in one direction, being aware of each other sharing the same space. 💖
Riding various transportation types at the centre enables our tamariki to increase their cardiovascular fitness as well as helps with strengthening their muscles, balance and flexibility. It also improves mental health, posture and coordination. 💪
Riding bikes or scooters are a clear interest and a favourite amongst our tamariki at Buckle My Shoe, and what better way to improve physical activity and holistic well-being within our learning environment! 🙌
We were so lucky and blessed to have such an amazingly beautiful day for our wheels day. Our tamariki all voluntarily shared and took turns on each other's wheels, allowing each other to challenge themselves. We cannot wait to do another Wheels Day soon. 😊😊
