Everything's Better with Biscuits!

Buckle My Shoe is full of budding bakers and what better experience to end the week with, than making chocolate-chip biscuits!!! ๐Ÿ˜‹

Our little ones knew the drill and after washing their hands thoroughly, came to the kai table where all the ingredients and utensils necessary for some serious baking were ready for little hands to get mixing!

Taking turns around the table, our little ones explored and added in each ingredient - following a recipe and being as precise as possible. Food technology is a big part of our curriculum, so it was no surprise that our tamariki were very capable and confident during the whole process. Many of them even help with baking at home with their whanau. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ˜Š

Once all the ingredients were mixed together and formed dough, our tamariki had to use their strong finger muscles to roll the dough into balls, ready for the baking tray.

Not long after, a delicious smell filled the centre and we knew that the biscuits were ready! YUM!!!

Baking with children is a great way to get them involved with make connections to real-life, daily experiences. It also provides many opportunities to explore different ingredients, measurement, numeracy and literacy concepts (with the recipe) and of course - fun science concepts (as they see the ingredients mix together, dissolve, change state and cook in the oven).

With a bellyful of biscuits, our tamariki were happy campers and enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea time before starting their weekend with whanau. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ’–
