Green Day at Buckle My Shoe!
To acknowledge St Patricks Day, we held a special Green day at Buckle My Shoe and invited all our little ones and teachers to come dressed to impressed! 🍀
As our little ones arrived, they were super excited to show off their green outfits and there was a buzz of excitement in the air. Throughout the day different green-themed learning experiences were offered to our little ones including green painting, mask making, creating things with different green coloured collage materials and of course making green playdough. For many children this was just as exciting as celebrating their birthday, as green is their favourite colour of all. During the day we spoke about what St Patrick’s Day is and where in the world it is celebrated most. 😊
It is important for our little ones to be exposed to different cultural celebrations and events of significance in the wider community. Te Whāriki the NZ Early Childhood Curriculum states as part of its Belonging Strand the requirement that ‘children and their families experience an environment where connecting links with the family and wider world are affirmed and extended’. By acknowledging St Patricks Day and other cultural events, our little ones are developing respect for other cultures. 😊
