Nature Treasure Hunt
The outdoor environment can be filled with lots of nature’s treasures and so we decided to do a Nature Treasure Hunt with our little ones. But first, we had to think about what we could use to collect our treasures in. 😊
Since our little ones love art, we found some big envelopes and decided these would be perfect for our treasures. “Why don’t we decorate them first?” was a unanimous call - and that is exactly what we did! Each child spent time decorating their envelope and making it their own. It was finally time to head outside and begin our search.
Moving around different areas of the outdoor play space, we had our eyes eagerly searching. One by one our little ones spotted different things such as shells, flowers, feathers, coloured stones, special leaves and much more. As our envelopes became heavier, our treasure hunt came to an end. We decided to head back inside to examine our findings together.
Nature Treasure Hunts are a great way for our little ones to explore their outdoor environment and get excited about different things nature has to offer. It is a way for them to appreciate the beauty of what’s around them. There are also lots of opportunities for conversations as they share with each other what they have found, incorporating descriptive words that extend on their developing vocabulary. This is an easy and fun activity to do at home as well. 😊
