Paint Dabber Creations
Not a day goes by at Buckle My Shoe where our little ones aren’t engaging in the arts – expressing themselves and their ideas through different mediums such as paint. Instead of using paint with a paint brush, we sometimes provided our tamariki with something different – paint dabbers!
For some of them, this was the first time they were using paint dabbers and after some initial exploration, they made the statement that they were similar to “big felt pens”. What a great observation tamariki! Sharing the colours amongst the group, they had turns using them to draw patterns, make shapes, create pictures and even write their names. They explored how to use them and what the effects were when pressed lightly and hard upon the paper. With such focus and concentration, it was great to watch their masterpieces evolve – with some even communicating a story to accompany their pictures. 😊
It is important for our little ones to experience different artistic tools, as different tools provide opportunities to develop different skills. Little hands need to manoeuvre differently depending on the size, shape and thickness of drawing and writing tools. This in turn supports their fine motor skills and pencil grip. It also encourages them to navigate through new tasks and to problem solve.
Who knows – we might have the next Picasso at Buckle My Shoe! 👍❤😊
