Creativity with Cardboard at Buckle My Shoe!

At Buckle My Shoe, sometimes we find that it’s the everyday items that make the most enjoyable experiences for our little ones. Today one of our wonderful kaiako brought in some flattened cardboard boxes that were just too big and interesting to throw away. We decided to set up an outdoor creative corner and use the giant bits of cardboard as the canvas for our creativity!

Working with different coloured paints and brushes, our little ones were soon immersed in expressing their creativity on such a big blank canvas. Some children chose to experiment with colour, others were interested in creating specific pictures, whilst a few had the goal to cover all the available space with paint. 🖌🎨

Whatever the intention, this turned into a very collaborative outdoor art experience which lasted most of the morning. Once they were done, we left the cardboard canvases outside to dry. The following day, the cardboard canvases were transformed into 101 different things - starting off as a giant door and ending up as a magic carpet…the spontaneous play opportunities were endless! 😍

So, if you have any giant pieces of cardboard or boxes at home, be sure to offer them to your little one and watch as their imagination takes over and transforms these everyday items into something magical. 😊🙌💖
